Parndorf is well known among Hungarian customers. Since the opening of the outlet in 1998, one-sixth of the visitors are Hungarian, and many of its employees are also Hungarian. The outlet is the largest private employer in Burgenland, nearly half of the 2,000 employees are of Hungarian or Slovak originand three quarters of the employees are women. The number of Hungarian customers increased by 27 percent last year, and by 12 percent in the first half of this year.
The 37,000-square-meter center is constantly being expanded, and is now also facing significant developments.
McArthurGlen is Europe’s leading designer outlet operator: It operates 24 outlets in 8 countries, most recently they opened one near Paris. Mario Schwann, the local manager of the global outlet specialist McArthurGlen, which operates the outlet, revealed that the proportion of Hungarian customers is stable, ranging between 15-18 percent, and that when the outlet grows, Hungarian interest also increases along with the general trends. In 2019, the record was 6.2 million visitors, which was increased to 6.8 million in 2023.

The company’s annual turnover is 5 billion euros, and one of the special features of the location in Parndorf is that it is only one and a half car drives away from three capitals (Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava).
Developments are ongoing
The center currently offers 160 designer brands in an area of 37,000 square meters is constantly expanding. The Parndorf Outlet offers not only shopping opportunities, but also accommodation and even entertainment programs. The company is proud to sell local products, and greening projects are ongoing, such as installing solar panels and implementing energy-saving solutions.
Among the new developments at the outlet is the expansion of night shopping opportunities, which were so popular that the originally one-night program had to be spread over four nights.
From September, new brands such as the McQueen luxury company, Spyder, Red Bull World, and Tommy Hilfiger Kids will also be available in the outlet.
The management of the company still cares a lot about Hungarian customers, which is why they are also starting shuttle buses. We don’t know exactly how much money we leave in the outlet, but we do know how Middle Eastern or Asian customers looking for luxury goods spend more per customer.
