Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Fuerte Olimpo Regional Hospital and other institutions provided medical care and health education to the indigenous community of María Elena. Consultations, vaccinations, distribution of PANI milk and family planning were carried out, according to the Ministry of Health report.

Extramural care in the indigenous community of María Elena offered medical services and support to the inhabitants of this area. The initiative included home consultations for bedridden patients, meetings with community leaders, and prevention and health promotion actions.

During the visit, the hospital doctors met with community leaders to discuss the possibility of training midwives, a request from the leaders themselves who seek to strengthen care for pregnant women and newborns in the community. In addition, respiratory symptomatic patients were detected and samples were taken for the Tuberculosis (TB) Program, reinforcing epidemiological surveillance in the XVII Health Region, Alto Paraguay.

The team also included the PANI Program, which delivered milk to pregnant women and children, and the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), which recruited children who needed to complete their vaccination schedule, according to the report from the health portfolio.

IPS Director Sira Samaniego offered family planning services, Pap smears, and consultations for pregnant women, while the Family Health Unit (USF) in Fuerte Olimpo provided pre-consultations, a pharmacy, and delivery of medications to patients.

In addition, health promotion and education activities were carried out, such as deworming students and implementing the Healthy Schools project, which includes work in nursing areas. These actions seek to improve the quality of life of children and their families, ensuring a safer and healthier environment.

To reach the community of María Elena, located in an area of difficult access, two stern-driven motorboats were used to transport medical supplies, milk from the PANI program and other materials necessary for the journey.
