Since the iPhone 13 line, launched in 2021 by Apple, all of the company’s phones have come with at least 128GB of storage. That situation changed a bit last year, as the iPhone 15 Pro Max — Apple’s most expensive smartphone — now has 128GB of storage. 256GB in its most basic configuration.
According to information from TrendForcein 2024 both the “iPhone 16 Pro” and “iPhone 16 Pro Max” will start at 256GB. In addition, the research firm also reinforced the rumor that both models will feature a tetraprism lens, which will bring good capabilities in terms of camera zoom to the smaller model.
Still following the information, this increase in storage space of the “iPhone 16 Pro” is a strategy by Apple to pass on the high cost of the tetraprism lens to the consumer, since the 256GB model is more expensive than the 128GB model. Currently, it is worth noting, the iPhone 15 Pro starts at US$1,000, while the 256GB model costs US$1,100.
And it doesn’t stop there: both the entry-level “iPhone 16” and the Pro models are expected to come with 8GB of memory — a change that comes to better accommodate Apple Intelligence in the new devices. Currently, only the more expensive models have this amount of memory, while the iPhones 15 and 15 Plus come with just 6GB.
The firm also corroborated the rumor that both lines will come equipped with 3-nanometer chips from the “A18” family, so that the professional models will come with the “A18 Pro” and the entry-level iPhones, a more basic version of the chip without this suffix. They are still expected to feature a Neural Engine improved — also thinking about AI.
Finally, TrendForce also corroborated another rumor that may disappoint some users. According to it, while the “iPhones 16 Pro” will have LTPO screens with ProMotion (variable up to 120Hz), the most basic models will continue for another year with LTPS screens of only 60Hz.
In any case, we will see which rumors are true or not next Monday (9/9), during the “Time to Shine” event (“It’s Glowtime”). Anxious?

iPhone 16: What to Expect from Apple’s Latest Flagship
With the highly anticipated ”Time to Shine” event just around the corner, rumors are swirling about the next generation of iPhones. According to a report from TrendForce, the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with a minimum of 256GB of storage, a significant upgrade from the current iPhone 15 Pro’s starting capacity of 128GB.
A Shift in Storage Strategy
This increase in storage space is likely a strategic move by Apple to offset the high cost of the new tetraprism lens, which is expected to be featured on both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The tetraprism lens will bring improved camera zoom capabilities to the smaller model, making it a valuable addition to the iPhone lineup.
Other Upgrades and Features
In addition to the increased storage capacity, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are also expected to come with 8GB of memory, a significant upgrade from the current 6GB found in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This increase in memory will better support Apple Intelligence in the new devices.
The iPhone 16 lineup is also rumored to feature 3-nanometer chips from the “A18” family, with the Pro models featuring the “A18 Pro” and the entry-level iPhones featuring a more basic version of the chip. Additionally, the Neural Engine is expected to be improved, further enhancing AI capabilities.
Display Differences
While the iPhone 16 Pro models will feature LTPO screens with ProMotion (variable up to 120Hz), the entry-level models will continue to have LTPS screens with a refresh rate of 60Hz. This difference in display technology may be a disappointment for some users, but it’s likely a strategic move by Apple to differentiate the Pro models from the more affordable options.
