BEETLEJUICE is back! Tim Burton returns to direct Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice and Winona Rider as Lydia Deetz in the sequel to the film titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The first Beetlejuice film was released in 1988.

After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers a model of the mysterious city in the attic and a portal to the afterlife is accidentally opened.

With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon unleashes chaos once again.

In addition to Keaton returning to his iconic role as Beetlejuice along with Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice features a new cast.

Justin Theroux (Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, The Leftovers), Monica Bellucci (Spectre, The Matrix), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon) in his feature film debut, as well as Emmy nominee Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Scream VI) as Lydia’s daughter Astrid, and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Poor Things, At Eternity’s Gate).

The screenplay was written by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (Wednesday), with a story by Gough & Millar and Seth Grahame-Smith, based on characters created by Michael McDowell & Larry Wilson.

Tim Burton said that after the first film, there was a lot of talk about the possibility of making a sequel. There was talk over the years about the idea of a sequel but for Burton, nothing seemed right.

“So, all this time has passed, 35 years, and what I’m interested in and excited about is the life story. Like, what happened to the Deetz family? It’s 35 years later, what happened to Lydia, this interesting teenager? You start using your own life experiences: you’re an interesting teenager. What happens as an adult? Have kids? What are your relationships like? What do you become? Things happen to all of us as we get older and change—relationships, kids, all that stuff. That was the core of what interested me again, what happened to the Deetz family. It was quite emotional for me to revisit these characters,” the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice director was quoted as saying in his production notes interview, Wednesday (4/9). (Z-1)
