Gibran Volunteers Support Jakarta‘s Online Motorcycle Taxi Drivers
In an effort to assist individuals affected by challenging economic conditions, volunteers led by Gibran organized a series of social activities from August 30 to September 1, 2024. The events took place across South Jakarta, West Jakarta, and North Jakarta, where volunteers provided free basic necessities, nutritious food, and complimentary haircut services to online motorcycle taxi drivers.
This initiative demonstrates a strong commitment to assist those in need, particularly the online motorcycle taxi drivers who play a vital role in supporting their families during these uncertain times.
The social activities commenced in South Jakarta on August 30, where volunteers distributed hundreds of nutritious meals in celebration of blessed Friday, delivering meals to online motorcycle taxi drivers following Friday prayers.
Junaidi, an online motorcycle taxi driver who participated, expressed gratitude: “Thank you for the concern of volunteer Mr. Gibran for online motorcycle taxi drivers like us. We appreciate the free lunch, especially when orders are getting harder to come by.”
On Saturday, August 31, 2024, the activities moved to North Jakarta, focusing on distributing hundreds of basic food packages that included essential items such as rice, cooking oil, and instant noodles to online motorcycle taxi drivers. Additionally, volunteers provided free shaving services for drivers who lacked time or resources for self-care.
Marjuki, a representative of the volunteers, shared, “We recognize the hard work these online motorcycle taxi drivers put in daily for their families. Thus, we aim to offer them some relief through this assistance and ensure they remain healthy and can perform optimally.”
The drivers who benefitted from this initiative exhibited enthusiasm and appreciation. One driver remarked, “This kind of assistance is tremendously helpful for us who struggle on the streets every day. Our heartfelt thanks go to Mas Gibran and all the volunteers for their support.”
Marjuki expressed hope that this initiative will serve as an inspiration for others in the community to show greater empathy towards individuals facing economic hardships. He encouraged various stakeholders to engage in similar social activities in the future.
The three-day volunteer effort not only provided material assistance but also fostered a sense of community and social responsibility. With these tangible efforts, there is optimism that more individuals and organizations will be motivated to contribute, enhancing welfare and promoting social justice across all levels of society.
