As Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis prepares for his speech at the TIF, the government is prioritizing critical issues, demonstrating its commitment to addressing challenges directly. During his visit to Thessaly, he emphasized the importance of tackling problems head-on.
“We have laid the foundations, we know the problems, we have wounds to heal.”
During the announcement of a significant reconstruction plan for Thessaly, Mitsotakis detailed a €3 billion investment aimed at repairs and infrastructure enhancement, ensuring modern durability standards.
The Prime Minister also revealed a 17% reduction in tolls on the Maliakos – Kleidi section of PATHE, effective from October 1 until the end of 2025. This reduction translates to a benefit of up to €3 for drivers on the Athens-Thessaloniki route, addressing public concerns regarding inflation.
In conjunction with the opening of a new Health Center in Mouzaki, Mitsotakis spoke about the NHS, acknowledging existing challenges while highlighting significant investments from the Recovery Fund aimed at over 60 public hospitals and 150 healthcare facilities across the country. “We will constantly fight to provide the best health services to every Greek woman and every Greek man in every corner of our country,” he stated.
Reconstruction Plan for Thessaly
The reconstruction strategy encompasses short-term, medium-term, and long-term interventions aimed at restoring normalcy for residents one year after recent disasters. The plan includes state aid and an acceleration of compensation processes, with infrastructure projects (such as roads, trains, and schools) totaling €1.4 billion, while also rationalizing water resources.
Key Project Areas
- Regional Implementation: Projects focused on immediate protection against flooding (streams, embankments) funded by the state.
- Mountain Hydrology Projects: Infrastructure developments aimed at managing water effectively.
- Major Projects: Initiatives requiring in-depth studies, funded by the Union of Hellenic Banks (including dam projects and canal developments).
The overarching goal is to fortify Thessaly against future disasters and promote development in the region.
