In the narrow streets of Landhi Sherpao Colony in Karachi, there is a unique shop where a cobbler named Ikramullah fulfills his hobby by singing songs while sewing the shoes of his customers.
Independent Urdu visited Ikramullah’s shop and spoke to him about his work as well as his passion for singing.
Ikram said that he belongs to Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and he has been repairing and selling slippers for 14 years in Sherpao Colony area of Karachi.
He was fond of songs since childhood. Ikram said: ‘When I was eight years old, I used to listen to songs and listening to them, I became interested in singing. I sing in my slippers and the customers also want to hear me.’

Ikramullah, 26, said he has no teacher and mostly concentrates on Urdu songs, while he also sings Pashto songs.
He said that due to lack of money, he refrains from auditioning for a program.
Ikram, who earns Rs 7 or 800 a day as a shoemaker, said: ‘My wish is to meet famous Pashto musicians like Zaman Zaheer and Rahim Shah. It is my heart’s desire to learn more from them.’
Ikramullah’s friend Waseem told Independent Urdu that Ikram understands every style of singing and can sing out loud and if he gets a chance, he can go far.
