Public employees commemorate their day by asking for salary increases

The president of the National Federation of Public Employees (FEDEUNEP), Antonio Suárez, insisted on the need for the union to have the authorities evaluate and implement new salary scales in order to improve the economic conditions of workers.

Suarez remembered, In the framework of the national day of the public servant, the importance of readjusting the salary based on a base that benefits social benefits and the various bonuses and premiums that they receive in the sector.

The leader also stressed the need to address these discussions with the Executive to find methods and strategies that satisfy all parties.

«We hope that the talks will be restarted, that the salary scales will be reviewed to progressively readjust the rest of the things that have an impact on them, that is vital for us.“, Suarez stressed.

He also called for a “deep review” of the health of public workers and the reactivation of social security, as he warned that its benefits are far below the reality of medical care in the country and that the private sector is unable to cover its costs.

FEDEUNEP hopes that talks will soon take place with the new Minister of Labor, Eduardo Piñate, to establish and design a plan that includes the participation of the sector.

Although he understands the difficult situation of the country, he believes that workers’ salaries should be adjusted to around 200 dollars. and which today barely covers around 800-900 thousand bolivars (close to 25 dollars at the official exchange rate).
