PARIS – Debut day for Bebe Vio Grandis at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. There was also a special fan cheering the two-time Paralympic fencing champion today in the stands of the Grand Palais: Lorenzo Jovanotti, her great friend.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen her live: after millions of meetings everywhere, at my concerts, at dinner, but I had never seen her compete. Here it’s really crazy, the atmosphere is beautiful”, said the singer. Jovanotti attended the competitions with his wife, next to Bebe’s family.
“I’ve known Bebe since she was a child, right after her illness. She came to one of my concerts and we’ve been in touch ever since. She’s amazing, she has incredible explosive strength. We know she’s the strongest of all,” the singer continued. “It’s beautiful, exciting and moving to see that such a small body can bring out so much strength. And then we all know what she’s done for the world of disability, for children: she’s helped them, she’s pulled many of them out of their homes thanks to sport. She’s truly a force.”
And on his condition, after the bad bike accident last year in Santo Domingo, the artist commented: “I’m better and now I’m almost 100%. In January I should be fine, and then I’ll start the tour”. “He’s getting ready for Los Angeles 2028”, joked Bebe Vio’s father.
In the afternoon, Bebe beat Chinese Su Kang 15-7 in the repechage to reach the bronze medal final in the category B foil.
