Lahore Javed Butt murder: ‘Three decades of gang war could not be stopped’

Lahore The police have registered a case of murder of Javed Butt and injured his wife by shooting on Monday and have started legal proceedings.

In the FIR registered in Achhra police station, Hamza Javed, the son of the deceased, has said that ‘My father, 65-year-old Javed Butt, and mother, Tehmina Javed, were going to pick up the children from school in a car from our house in Allama Iqbal Town.

When the car stopped at the Canal Road Shah Jamal sign, two motorcyclists opened fire indiscriminately from the front. Due to which my father died on the spot while my mother was injured by bullets.’

The victim’s son added that after seeing the firing on the open road in broad daylight, panic spread among the people in the surrounding vehicles and everyone worried about saving their lives.

“My mother was taken to Services Hospital where she is being treated. My mother has seen the shooters herself and has identified that Amir Balaj’s younger brother Amir Fateh along with his associate Qaiser Butt along with two unknown motorcyclists were among the shooters. They managed to escape after firing.’

Mutaqla Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Ayaz while talking to Independent Urdu said that ‘Taifi Butt’s brother-in-law Muhammad Javed Butt has been shot dead by motorcyclists. We are investigating in this regard, however, in the FIR, the plaintiff has accused Balaj Tipu’s brother Ameer Fateh and his accomplices. The police are investigating with the help of CCTV cameras, as soon as the facts are known, a final conclusion can be reached in this regard.

Naeem Mustafa, a senior journalist from Lahore, said in his analysis of this case, “This simple murder is not an incident, but three decades ago, it started with the politics of Shah Alam Market traders.” The gang The stabbing resulted in the 25th homicide. This opposition started with the battle of Shah Alam Market between Bila Truckanwala and Azhar Syed Group. Later Tafi and Gogi Butt also became part of it.’

Former Inspector General of Police (IG) Punjab Chaudhry Yaqoob told Independent Urdu, ‘Where there is high poverty and lack of education and the powerful are above the law, it is impossible to stop such crimes. Due to the political patronage, criminals do not have the fear of punishment, which makes them do whatever they want.’

Senior journalist Naeem Mustafa while talking to Independent Urdu said that this fight started not from now but at the beginning of 90s from Shah Alam market. There used to be a tent of the truckless man, who used to make the decisions of the traders. Then Azhar Saeed Butt set up a board of Anjuman Tajran and built his own separate camp. Thus, they were able to set up their own business group in comparison to those without trucks.’

Naeem Mustafa said, “In Gawal Mandi, Tafi Gulshan alias Tefi Butt, his elder brother Athar Gulshan and cousin Aqeel Butt alias Gogi Butt called themselves wrestlers.”

“When the factions of traders were formed, their group also joined forces with the Azhar Saeed group in the fight against those without trucks.

Then Tafi and Gogi group took two servants of Bila Truckan Wale with them and their first fight took place in the traders’ elections.

He further said that ‘after some time, when the truck driver was killed, it was blamed on Tefi and Gogi Butt. After that, Tipu Truckanwala, who was the son of Bat, decided to avenge his father. When two of Tefi’s servants were killed, the blame was put on Tipu Turkanwala.

Then a few years ago, when Tipu Truckan Wale was killed at Lahore Airport on his way to Dubai, his case was also registered against Tefi and Gogi Butt. Even after this, several servants of Tefi and Gogi were killed and the blame was laid on Tipu’s son Balaj Tipu. But when Balaj was killed a few months ago, his case was also registered against Tafi Butt.’

He further said that Tafi Butt fled to Dubai on the day of the incident. After that, Ahsan Shah, involved in the Balaj murder case, was killed in an alleged police encounter a few days ago in police custody and the police accused his brother of murder.

According to Naeem Mustafa: ‘Now on Monday Tafi Butt’s brother-in-law Javed Butt has been killed. His case has been registered against Balaj’s younger brother Mir Fateh. So far 25 people have been killed on both sides of these two gangs. There are 16 murder cases against Tefi Butt, in 15 of which he has been acquitted, but the Balaj murder case is still under hearing. Likewise, dozens of cases are going on against the Truckan group.

Analyzing, he further said that three members of the family of Turkan have been killed, but this is the first incident that someone from the family of Tefi Butt has been killed. Javed Butt used to handle all the business of Tefi Butt and also looked after the house in his absence. I think this series will not stop here, but will intensify further.’

Why is it so hard to stop gang wars?

Speaking to Independent Urdu, former IG Punjab Police Chaudhry Yaqoob said that these killings are done by both groups to establish their supremacy. The police must take action according to the law, but these people are so powerful on the basis of political support and money that it is difficult, if not impossible, to punish them permanently.

Chaudhry Yaqub said that ignorance is increasing in our country, where two and a half million children do not go to school, education is not a priority. It is not difficult to create a gang of criminals there who take up arms and try to create terror.

“So gangs like this can never end. They kill each other through their employees. If the police take action, they tie the hands of the law with money.” In this trap, the police, political leaders and administrative officers are also engaged in protecting them instead of eliminating them.

Former IG Punjab Police Chaudhry Yaqoob said that ‘first they killed their servant, now they killed their servant, now they will kill theirs and this cycle has continued and will continue. The gang war that has been going on for three decades has not been stopped till today.
