Yasin Ayari has had Jon Dahl Tomasson as coach at Blackburn before.

Now the midfielder hopes for a starting place already against Azerbaijan.

– I get a lot out of my game during his type of football, says Ayari.

The 20-year-old also talks about the success in England, what he thinks of his former club AIK in the Allsvenskan and the early change of brother Taha.

Yasin Ayari is once again in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s national team squad.

He knows the Dane from before as the former AIK midfielder had him at Blackburn, a club Ayari was loaned to last year.

Now the first match in the Nations League awaits as Sweden travels to Baku on Tuesday for a match against Azerbaijan on Thursday.

– I hope we win both games and it will be fun to play. You must always build a winning mentality, even if it is a training match or a competitive match, says Ayari.

You come in here in good shape?

– Yes, I feel in good shape.

When Jon Dahl Tomasson describes how he wants to play his football, it is very offensive and looking forward. Does that sound like your kind of football?

– Yes, exactly. I like his football very much. A lot of possession and attacking as much as possible and I get a lot out of my game during that kind of football.

Received playing time in all matches

When did you get the signals from Brighton that you would stay and get playing time?

– Already in the pre-season. We had a conversation even then and I scored straight away at the pre-season camp in Japan and it left its mark. After that it was just a matter of continuing. I do my best in training and matches.

How does it feel to have that confidence in the Premier League?

– It’s fun. The Premier League is the best league in the world and it’s nice that I got to jump in so early against Arsenal, he could have brought anyone in, but he put me in.

Brighton recently replaced Robert de Zerbi, who signed for Marseille 31-year-old Fabian Hürzeler.

Ayari believes that the coach has come in and done very well and the Swede has also been given playing time in all matches in the Premier League so far.

– He is very good and young, as you all know. He is beautiful. It’s a fresh start. With De Zerbi, we ran training sessions that were maybe an hour long. Now it’s a two-hour training session and it’s hard. German training, running a lot and high intensity.

How is it then?

– That’s good. I’m still young so it doesn’t take as much on me as on the older people, says Ayari with a laugh.

Answering about brother Taha

Ayari was sold for big money to Brighton from AIK in January 2023. He follows the club where he broke through closely.

– Things are going well now for AIK. They have five in a row, six if you count the cup. But in terms of gameplay, no highlight if you say so. But yeah, I’m not there. I don’t know what’s going on.

Do you follow them a lot?

– Yes, I watch every match. My brother plays there.

What do you say about your brother Taha Ayari’s season?

– He gets to play a little more and more now. He is doing well. The times he gets to play, I think he does well.

TDo you think he will ever come to the A national team so you can play together?

– That is the dream. Above all for the father and the family. We aim for it. He has to work a little harder

He was replaced after 18 minutes last time. Have you talked to him about it?

– I haven’t talked to him much about it, to be honest. I think it was just shady, I haven’t asked him.

AIK is really doing well right now, but you’re not sold on the game?

– I think everyone who understands football knows what I mean. It’s not that hard to see that they don’t play the best football in the world. But they win, so you shouldn’t complain.

Can AIK take a European place do you think?

– Yes, if they continue to play like this and win like this, why not.

What has been the most difficult to adapt to the new life in England?

– It hasn’t been that difficult if I’m honest. Maybe it’s the weather then.

What do you think is required for you to take the next step in the A national team?

– It’s about doing well in the club team and continuing to do well there and proving at the national team meetings that I will play. I’ll take the chance when I get it.
