“The assumption of the presidency of the Development Organization of the New Metropolitan Attica by Dimitris Fragakis, an accomplished technocrat with significant experience both in the self-governing and in the tourism sector, signals the special importance we give to the promotion of tourism as a pillar of development for Attica”. said Mr. Hardalias.
The regional governor of Attica also thanked outgoing president Nikos Papageorgiou for his “many years of invaluable contribution” to the organization and added: “The New Metropolitan Attica will focus, beyond tourism development, on culture, which in combination with tourism will constitute the main areas of activity of the organization. At the same time, we will continue to provide assistance to municipalities for the maturation of studies and the construction of important projects, thus supporting local communities and our fellow citizens.
The Regional Authority emphasizes the strengthening of tourist investments and alternative forms of tourism, with the aim of making Attica an attractive tourist destination throughout the year. In addition, we aim to strengthen the interconnection of training programs with research and innovation, in order to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of our tourism product”.
Dimitris Fragakis was born in 1972 in Athens and comes from Chania. He holds a master’s degree from the School of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Athens and a graduate of the Athens School of Philosophy. He has worked, among other things, as deputy general director of the “Constantinos K. Mitsotakis” Foundation (2000 – 2003), as a scientific collaborator of Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the Hellenic Parliament (2004 – 2013) and as his advisor at the Ministry of Administrative Reform (2013 – 2014).
In the period 2014-2019 he served as general secretary of the Municipality of Chania, while in the period 2019-2024 he served as general secretary of the Hellenic Tourism Organization (EOT). His family is involved in tourism business. He speaks English and Italian and has a son.
