[Life Notes-Meeting with Football Star Chi Minghua]
Autumn leaves in the wind
I am a die-hard fan of Chinese football.I have lived in the United States for 36 years, but my original intention remains the same, and I am still attached to Chinese football. This is because I have loved football since I was a child, and then I became an out-and-out star chaser. I still remember that on the third day of the Chinese New Year in 1963, Guangdong and Bayi played against each other in Yuexiu Mountain. The Guangdong team won a free kick outside the penalty area. The athlete Yang Zixuan kicked the ball hard, and the ball went through the opponent’s wall and went straight to the goal. This wonderful moment, with the record of Guangdong team’s 3:1 victory, is deeply engraved in my mind. Since then, I have followed the struggle of Guangdong team and have never changed my original intention.
Of all the Guangdong teams, I like the team led by Su Yongshun, which includes Rong Zhixing, Du Zhiren, Gu Guangming, He Jia, Chen Xirong, and Cai Jinbiao. Then there is the team led by Xian Dixiong, which includes Ou Weiting, Wu Qunli, Zhao Dayu, Li Chaobo, Mai Chao, Huang Junwei and other stars. Since the 1980s, I have paid special attention to the new star Chi Minghua of Guangdong. I feel that he has a clear mind, is good at reading and filling positions, and is a technical and conscious central defender. I am very optimistic about his development prospects. Later, he lived up to expectations and became a star of the Guangdong team. Then he became the captain of the Chinese football team. At a young age, he led the national team to fight bravely, becoming the pride of Guangdong football, and also made me his die-hard fan.
Today, I was introduced by the Wensheng brothers and agreed to have lunch with Chi Minghua and his wife. I was so happy to have the opportunity to get close to my idol and realize my long-cherished wish. I couldn’t wait… When we first met, I was amazed to see Captain Chi wearing a red sportswear, with a dignified appearance and a straight posture. He was really a handsome man! The wife next to him was also dignified and beautiful, with a heroic demeanor. Later I learned that she was a martial arts champion in Guangdong Province, good at swordsmanship and long fist, and could be called a martial arts master. No wonder she was so heroic and impressive! After sitting down and exchanging a few pleasantries, Captain Chi showed a rare high emotional intelligence, with a friendly attitude, decent conversation, and good communication. He and I shared football stories and secrets of football stars. It was really a good conversation. I am sure that his approachability is also an important reason why he is loved by fans… Perhaps it was fate that we were destined to meet. Chi Minghua specially found a photo of him, Gu Guangming and Zhao Dayu in his mobile phone. I carefully looked at the heroic figures of the Guangdong “Three Musketeers” in the past and couldn’t let it go. So I asked him to send it to the WeChat group so that I could keep it forever. Wen Sheng also specially invited me to join the Meizhou group. I also did not avoid being unfamiliar and happily became a group member with my idol. As a star worshipper, I did not forget to invite the celebrity couple to take a photo with us. It was rare that my wife knew me well. She was quick-witted and took a shot of Chi Minghua and I shaking hands, leaving the most favorite photo.
Happy times are always short. We are reluctant to say goodbye to our idols. We will meet again and look forward to more surprises!
