Exploring Potential for Cooperation, Indonesia Holds Side Events at 2nd IAF in Bali

As a concrete step to strengthen Indonesia-Africa cooperation at various levels and fields, Indonesia has prepared several… side events in a series of activities of the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) in Bali on 1-3 September 2024.

Director of Africa at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dewi Justicia Meidiwaty said the activity would be a forum to expand networks, hold constructive discussions, and explore potential cooperation, especially in the economic sector.

“This forum will also be used to exchange experiences and best practices, especially in natural resource management, bilateral and regional economic cooperation, and strengthening human resource capacity,” said Dewi in an official statement, Saturday (31/8).

By carrying the theme Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2063The 2nd IAF invited 54 countries in Africa to jointly discuss the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields. The implementation of the 2nd IAF will be combined with High Level Forum on Multi Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF-MSP).

The implementation of IAF 2024 is a continuation of the success of the first IAF held in 2018. This forum aims to implement the Bandung Spirit modality initiated by the nation’s founders, with a focus on economic benefits and welfare for the people of Indonesia and Africa through mutually beneficial development cooperation.

The 2nd IAF in Bali will strengthen collaboration in four priority sectors, namely food security, energy security, health security, and mineral security. “We invite all parties to participate in IAF II and together build a better future for Indonesia and Africa,” he said.

However, some side events prepared by the ministry/institution, including Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Forum (IAPF), Country Specific Business ForumSigning of the RI-Kenya Artisanal Mining MoU, Signing of the MoU between EMP and GUMA. Then there was the Meeting of the Indonesian Honorary Consuls in the African Region, Workshop on Downstreaming Mining with Value Added Indonesia-AfricaTony Blair Institute Panel Discussion on AfCFTA, and Signing of several MoUs with an estimated value of USD 3.5 billion.
