How much has been paid in capacity charges so far, documents reveal – Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The government has paid one trillion rupees for capacity to 26 RLNG gas and RFO-powered Independent Power Distribution Companies (IPPs) in the year starting 2015.

As per the available documents, these IPPs were set up under Power Generation Policy, 1994, 1994 and before 2002, Business Recorder reported.

536.30 billion rupees were paid as capacity charges to gas/RLNG based power plants over 10 years, of which Rs.14.271 billion to Fuji Kabirwala, Rs.25.5 billion to Liberty Dharki Power Limited, Rs.25.5 billion to Rosh Pak Power Limited. 60 billion rupees, 60 billion rupees were given to H Power Limited.

205.034 billion rupees to Hub Power Company Limited, 167 billion rupees and 8.740 billion rupees to Kot Addu, 15.087 billion rupees to Koh Noor Energy, 52.081 billion rupees to Lal Pir Energy, 50.834 billion rupees to Pak General Limited, 33 billion rupees to Saba Power. Company Limited was paid Rs.50.834 billion.

Rs 43.173 billion was paid to Atlas Power, Rs 26.882 billion to Attock General, Rs 46.216 billion to Liberty Power Tech Limited, Rs 53.909 billion to Narowal Energy Limited, Rs 41.420 billion to Nishan Chunian Power Limited and Rs 91.91 billion to Nishat Power Limited. .

During the meeting presided over by Senator Mohsin Aziz, Senator Shibli Faraz raised questions on former Commerce Minister Abdul Razzaq Dawood’s huge capacity payments to Rosh Power Limited, H Power and Habco Power.

He further informed that the details of capacity payments have been provided to the committee. However, the data for the remaining 10 years is being retrieved as it is an old record and one month time has been given to collect the data and submit it to the committee.
