Bangladesh: ‘First case’ of dragon swallowing larger dragon

Bangladesh i Scientists has observed a 10-foot-long Burmese dragon swallowing a larger snake.

There is no previous example of such an incident. The two dragons mentioned in this incident belong to the largest species of snakes in the world.

Wildlife researchers at Akis Wildlife Farm in Chittagong observed a Burmese python wrapping itself tightly around another snake and swallowing it by the tail.

According to a recent report, published in the journal Reptiles and Amphibians, the dragon took about two hours to fully digest its prey.

This incident happened in October 2020.

Scientists say the reticulated dragon kept trying to grab the Burmese dragon in an attempt to protect itself, but loosened its grip when it came under the control of the other dragon.

Scientists are surprised by this behavior because the wildlife farm had better feeding opportunities for both snakes.

Scientists suspect that territorial disputes may have forced one dragon to eat the other.

Both Burmese and reticulated dragons are found in Bangladesh and both are on the United Nations Red List of Threatened Species.

The Burmese dragon grows up to 16 feet long and is found throughout Bangladesh. The reticulated dragon, which is the world’s longest dragon, can grow up to 22 feet long and is found in eastern regions such as Sylhet and Chittagong.

The border region of Chittagong, which lies between India and Myanmar, is a center of biodiversity and home to many animals, including both species of dragons.

Lizards, lizards, monkeys, small carnivores, deer and wild pigs are also found in this area, which are potential prey of these dragons.

Both species of dragon, which are native to South Asia and Southeast Asia, are found mostly in forests and occasionally in gardens and fields.

Scientists counted the chickens at Akiz Wildlife Farm and found that no dragons had eaten them.

Based on these observations, scientists suspect that this unique event may have been caused by a dispute over their territorial boundaries.

“To our knowledge, this is the first time a Burmese dragon has been documented hunting a reticulated dragon,” the scientists said.
