The LINAFP alarm bell –

In a press release made public by its Secretary General, Charles Nzegho, the National Professional Football League (LINAFP), mainly reminds the ministerial authority of its readiness to implement all the necessary steps for the resumption of the elite championship, first and second division.

In its press release, the National Professional Football League, while recalling the commitments made by the Ministry in charge of sports, during the working session of June 26, in particular in the presence of the presidents of the Gabonese National Olympic Committee (CNOG) and the Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT), said: “ready for the implementation of the resumption of National football 1 and 2, after the availability of the financial and logistical resources necessary for the organization”lit-on.

It is precisely and mainly for this reason that “to the burdens linked to the procedure for disbursing funds made available to elite football by oil companies within the framework of CSR (corporate and environmental responsibility), as well as the inadequacy between the proposed calendar of domestic competitions and the international calendar” that the working session last June had confirmed “The blank year” of the past 2023-2024 sports season and promised to relaunch the elite championships during this month of September 2024, recalls LINAFP.

The other stakeholders, in particular the elite men’s and women’s clubs which also took part in the meeting of June 26, 2024, had for their part made the resumption of activities and their participation in the various upcoming championships conditional on the payment of the debt owed to them, for previous sports seasons.

The issues of subsidy and financing of elite football have always been at the origin of the non-organization of a regular championship in Gabon for almost a decade; even though the National football has hardly been played for almost five (5) years, with the occurrence of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The national team, which has had mixed fortunes in recent seasons and is still expected on deck this week, as part of the 1era et 2th days of the CAN 2025 qualifiers, was mainly based on footballers playing in the various European championships.
