Mustafa Bakri explains the reason for the presence of the Egyptian army in Somalia

Bakri wrote in a post on his official account on “Platform X”: “The great Egyptian army is capable of protecting Egyptian national security against anyone who dares to attack it. The Egyptian lions in Somalia are a message to anyone who tries to tamper.”

Bakri added in his post: “The leadership makes its decision at the right time, and in accordance with the principles of international law and international conventions. The wisdom of the leader and the strength of the army provide security to the Egyptians, and repel all attempts at international and regional targeting of the state and its capabilities.”

Last week, Egyptian military equipment arrived in the Federal Republic of Somalia, in implementation of the military cooperation protocol between Egypt and Somalia, which was signed by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud during his visit to Cairo and his meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in mid-August.

The Federal Republic of Somalia appreciated Egypt’s step and the start of the arrival of Egyptian military equipment and delegations to the Somali capital, Mogadishu, in preparation for Egypt’s participation in the peacekeeping forces.
The Somali Ambassador to Cairo, Ali Abdi Aware, praised this important step, which is the first practical step to implement the outcomes of the Egyptian-Somali summit that was recently held in Cairo between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the President of the Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, which witnessed the signing of a joint defense agreement between Egypt and Somalia.

The Somali ambassador stressed in a statement that Egypt has never hesitated to support its brothers, especially Somalia, explaining that Egypt will thus be the first country to deploy forces to support the Somali army after the withdrawal of the current African Union forces.
