Paris: Pedestrian hit by car trying to flee police, driver arrested

A new refusal to comply in the capital. A pedestrian was hit by a car trying to flee the police in Paris on Sunday, we learned from a police source.

The victim, whose identity is not known, was taken care of by emergency services and transported to hospital. The driver of the vehicle and a passenger were arrested.

The incident occurred on Sunday near the Marx Dormoy metro station in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. The driver, who had refused to comply and was chased by the police, hit a pedestrian before ending up in a gas pipe at the corner of Rue Léon and Rue Ordener. The accident caused a leak that led to the total evacuation of the area, according to the police.

This new refusal to comply comes almost a week after the death on Monday of police officer Éric Comyn, hit by a hit-and-run driver in the Alpes-Maritimes. Several elected officials, particularly from the right, had called for tougher penalties for this type of crime following this tragedy.
