The Gulácsies performed a miracle: they reversed Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak from a two-goal deficit

The team of Péter Gulácsi and Willi Orbán, Leipzig, came from a two-goal deficit to win 3-2 at the home of Bayer Leverkusen in the second round of the German football championship on Saturday.

Both the defending champions and the team from Leipzig, which finished fourth, started the new season with a win, but the joy cannot be complete for the latter, as Willi Orbán was sent off in the 85th minute of the match against Bochum for fouling his opponent, who was leaving in a scoring position, and was banned for two matches. The other Hungarian in the team, the goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi, was available. In the previous season, both matches were won by Leverkusen, which eventually became the undefeated champion. Before this, Leipzig was able to win in this match in October 2022, when they won 2-0 at home.

The hosts started better, leading with two goals after 45 minutes, but at the same time, thanks to Kevin Kampl from Slovenia, Leipzig made it even better in the extra time of the first half.

After the turn, Belgian Lois Openda scored twice, and as Leverkusen’s efforts failed this time, Leipzig ended their opponent’s 35-game unbeaten run in the league.
