After the national blackout, a group of kidney patients from a clinic in Táchira were left without dialysis

FOR.- At least 11 kidney patients from a clinic located in the La Concordia sector of San Cristóbal They were left without dialysis this Friday after the blackout which was recorded from 4:50 am throughout the national territory.

Mr. Simon Jaimes has been a kidney patient for two months and this Friday he was waiting for his turn to enter the machine area to undergo dialysis, however, the appointment he had scheduled for 10 in the morning was moved to 2 in the afternoon because The health center does not have a power plant.

He said that the dialysis unit has three shifts, one that starts at six in the morning and ends at 9:30 am and another that starts at 10 in the morning, “but it turns out that today, due to the electricity issue, there was no dialysis in the morning for those who had to be dialyzed today, to leave it after six in the evening today, meaning they lost their shift in the morning.”

He said that he traveled from the town of Rubio at 6 in the morning and arrived at the unit at 8:50 am, he had to wait until 2 in the afternoon to have dialysis, he specified that there are between 10 and 11 machines at the site to care for patients, however, There are some that are useless due to lack of spare parts.

He said that at one point he thought about returning home because the electricity was restored after 10:30 am.

He knows that if he goes through the weekend without dialysis it is bad for his health, “a person who doesn’t urinate has to do it because he gets swollen, he gets swollen and the toxins poison his blood, you have to find a way to dialyze yourself at any cost to avoid dying.”

Dialysis was delayed a little

In another dialysis unit in the city of San Cristóbal that has a power plant, patients were able to receive treatment, although it was delayed a little, according to Mr. Estanislao Niño, who has been going to the place for 7 years. He said that the electricity in the area had not failed for several days.

Every time the power goes out the shift is delayedwhoever was supposed to come in at 9 must come in at 10 or 11 in the morning, “the time is delayed a lot because of the machine and that while they are washing the plant, while it is turning on, it does not start as soon as the power goes out, they have to turn on the plant and wait for the machine to load.” He indicated.

He said he arrived at the place at 10 in the morning and because of the delay he had to undergo dialysis at 12 noon.

He explained that there are 18 machines in the unit, but the only problem they have is that they do not have air conditioning, even though they have electricity. Mr. Niño asked for the air conditioning to be fixed because the heat affects them after 4 hours of dialysis.
