The princess drove the same car as in her youth in Geiranger

The bridal party arrived in Geiranger by boat on Friday afternoon, and were driven up to the Hotel Union where they will be married on Saturday.

They were transported in a 1932 Buick Touring model, one of the many vintage cars on display at the hotel.

The same car has transported royal and prominent guests several times before – and also Princess Märtha Louise and Crown Prince Haakon in 1993. At the time, they were in their early 20s and were on a trip into the Geirangerfjord to celebrate their parents’ silver wedding.

They got a proper sightseeing tour of the village in the vintage car.

The trip along the Westland coast in 1993 was called “Silvercruise”. More than 40 representatives of Europe’s royal families were there to celebrate the silver wedding of King Harald and Queen Sonja.

At the time, there was a lot of speculation as to whether some of the youngest members of the royal flock would establish romantic relationships, but that was not the case.

This is what NTB wrote in 1997 – four years after the trip:

“Since the successful Silvercruise in Western Norway in 1993, seven of the participants of the current age have married or become engaged, but not to someone they met on the trip.”

Instead, Crown Prince Haakon married Mette-Marit, and Princess Märtha Louise is now ready to marry Durek Verrett for her second marriage.

Thus, the royal family is once again gathered in Geiranger, a town several of them have talked about warmly on several occasions in the past.
