On the hour mark, his dream debut in the Bundesliga seemed far away, but Vincent Kompany has still won his first league match with Bayern Munich. On a visit to Wolfsburg, the team from the Belgian T1 could not convince. Majer threw himself into the role of tormentor on duty, but Serge Gnabry pushed him back into his box in the end. After a narrow victory, Kompany is relieved, but with points for improvement.

The first major test of the “Kompany system”.

That was what all of Germany – and by extension the Belgian football fans – were looking forward to in the league match between Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich. There was confidence in the approach of the new T1 at the record champions beforehand. Although one question remained.

How vulnerable is Bayern with Vincent Kompany’s tactical offensive guidelines?

Well, on the hour, the answer was revealed: rather vulnerable. Lovro Majer emerged as Bayern’s tormentor with two quick goals after the break – the first a result of a clumsily given penalty. Musiala’s opening shot was thus completely wiped off the tables.

That meant good news for the other Belgian in action, Sebastiaan Bornauw. The Wolfsburg defender threw his body into the battle to keep the lead on the board. Until an own goal by colleague Kaminski decided otherwise.

In the meantime, Kompany had made the necessary interventions. Müller conjured a piece of paper from his pants with new instructions. Not much later, Serge Gnabry provided relief for his coach.

Conclusion: no failure in the debut of our compatriot, but three hard-earned points and a lot of work for Kompany and co.
