Kostyukov: The Soviet nuclear bomb established peace in the world

Russia – Valentin Kostyukov, director of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center, confirmed that Soviet nuclear weapons maintained peace in the world, unlike American nuclear weapons.

Kostyukov wrote in an article for the Russian newspaper “National Defense” that the Soviet Union, unlike the United States, viewed the possession of the atomic bomb as simply a means of maintaining peace and as a factor in achieving stability and deterring possible Western aggression.

It is noteworthy that Thursday, August 29, marks the 75th anniversary of the test of the first Soviet atomic bomb, known by the Russian abbreviation РДС-1, which carries many meanings, including “Russia does it itself” Россия делает сама. According to experts, this event has become one of the most important events in Russia’s history, and what ensures its existence as a strong and independent power.

Kostyukov pointed out that in 1945 the first atomic bomb appeared in the United States, and in 1952 the first British atomic bomb was tested.

He stressed that “at the same time, only Soviet nuclear weapons worked for peace.”

He pointed out that in the early 1950s, at the “headquarters” of the Soviet nuclear industry, a draft of the collection “History of the Mastery of Atomic Energy in the USSR” was prepared.

It included the following phrase: “The atomic bomb in the hands of the Soviet people is a guarantee of peace.”

It is worth noting that Indian Prime Minister Nehru correctly assessed the importance of the Soviet atomic bomb, saying: “The importance of the atomic discovery can help prevent war.”

“This is how a progressive world politician looked at the Russian bomb, and this is how the Soviet leadership looked at the ‘bomb problem,’” Kostyukov noted.

He also cited the testimony of Vasily Makhnev, the former secretary of the highest government body for managing the Soviet nuclear project, who reported that the head of the body’s special committee, Lavrentiy Beria, “said more than once that we must have an atomic bomb, but that does not mean that we will use it.”
