The German government announced on Monday that it will allocate 100 million doses of monkeypox vaccines as part of international efforts to contain mpox in Africa.
German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit announced at a regular press conference that the doses will come from the German Army’s reserves. They will be distributed to the areas affected by the recent outbreak of the disease in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry.

“We are also supporting countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the World Health Organization with flexible financial tools to fight MPOX through the WHO’s Contingency Fund for Emergencies,” said Hebestreit.
The assistance mentioned by Hebestreit includes additional logistical material, a mobile laboratory for the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as support for NGOs operating in the region.
In addition, medium-term support is envisaged for the African Union, in collaboration with other European and international partners, to establish a local vaccine production centre.
