Tucker Carlson: France detained Durov with US support

“This is a big step,” Carlson added on his Telegram account. “It is very hard for me to believe that (French President Emmanuel) Macron could or would have done this without the support or at least the approval of the Biden administration.”

The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Wednesday evening that Telegram founder Pavel Durov had been released on bail of 5 million euros, placed under judicial supervision and banned from leaving France.

The Russian-born businessman is accused of six crimes, including running an online platform for illegal transactions, and faces up to ten years in prison.

Durov was arrested at Paris-Le Bourget airport on August 24, and the Paris prosecutor’s office later said he was being held for questioning in a case opened on July 8 against an unnamed individual suspected of committing 12 crimes.

In addition, French authorities are investigating Durov for allegedly concealing data on illegal online activities, including the distribution of child pornography and drug trafficking; he is also suspected of being unwilling to cooperate with authorities.

Durov’s detention has sparked widespread public criticism in many countries. Against this backdrop, French President Emmanuel Macron was forced to clarify his position, stressing that Durov’s detention was not a political decision, and promising that the decision in his case would be made by the judges.

Zakharova noted that Moscow sent a note demanding to communicate with the businessman, but Paris considers his French nationality to be the main one.

It is worth noting that Durov holds passports from Russia, France, the United Arab Emirates, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
