Natalie Stichova, 23, was pronounced dead six days after falling nearly 262 feet down Mount Tegelberg in the German state of Bavaria on August 15.
The tragic fall reportedly occurred near the picturesque Neuschwanstein Castle as the Czech athlete attempted to capture the perfect Instagram photo.
In an interview with Czech media, a friend of Natalie’s revealed that she was standing very close to the edge of the mountain when one of her feet appeared to slip off the edge while she was setting up the shot in front of the castle.
The friend, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “He fell from a height of about 80 meters (262 feet). We will never know if he slipped or if a piece broke off the edge of the rock.’
The young lady was accompanied by two friends and her boyfriend, David, when the incident happened. Police described the route as a “challenging climb”.
Local media reported that Natalie initially survived the horrific fall with serious injuries and was rushed to hospital by helicopter.
Her family requested that she be taken off the machines due to irreversible brain damage on August 21.
The 23-year-old regularly shared snaps of her travels with her followers on Instagram, showing herself on top of mountains in her workout gear.
Natalie was a well-known sports star in her home country and had recently started coaching youth athletes herself.
“Natalia spread smiles throughout her short life and that’s how she will be remembered forever,” her team, Sokol Pribram Sports Gymnastics, said in a statement.
“We extend our deepest condolences to her family and close friends, sending them strength and support.
