He had dreamed of it all his life and it finally came true. Juan Diego Blas took to the stage at the most important sporting event for people with disabilities and gave a performance he will never forget.

The 33-year-old Guatemalan goalkeeper stood up in the early hours of August 29 at the Invalides Palace in Paris and after two series of six shots he accumulated 606 points that served him well. to finish the qualifying round in 17th place.

Thanks to his performance, Blas has secured his presence in the first of five qualifying rounds, which will all be played on Wednesday, September 4.

Blas will return to the scene at 6.53 in the morning to face Colombian Julio Ramírez, who has just won a medal at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

After his debut in Paris 2024, Blas was satisfied with his result and “happy” to officially be a Paralympic athlete.

“I’m happy and fulfilled to be a Paralympic athlete. We started off a bit weak but we managed to improve, I finished 17th which is good. We’re ready to face the Colombian. We’re going to train these days to be ready. We will try to give our best in the matches, which is the key day.“, he said.

If the Guatemalan beats the Colombian, he will face the French in the round of 16. Guillaume Toucoullet.
