Weghorst looks set to sign a contract soon, which will tie him to the Johan Cruijff ArenA until mid-2026. The 32-year-old striker has never made a secret of the fact that he would like to return to the Netherlands. FC Twente initially seemed to be in pole position for the striker’s services, but this ultimately proved unfeasible. The former FC Emmen, Heracles and AZ player will therefore very likely return to the Eredivisie at Ajax, which he believes will be a good fit for him. “the biggest club in the Netherlands” is.
With the arrival of Weghorst, a number of transfer news will start at Ajax. For example, there seems to be no place for Chuba Akpom at Ajax. The competition with Brian Brobbey, Julian Rijkhoff and now Wout Weghorst seems to be going to be lost by the former top scorer of the Championship, which makes a transfer seem the best option for both parties.
That does not apply to Owen Wijndal. The full-back who came over from AZ in 2022 with promising expectations, can’t seem to live up to it at Ajax. There is also no prospect of playing time under Francesco Farioli, so he can look forward to a new adventure. At the moment, Leeds United seems to have the best papers to take over Wijndal, but there is also interest from Spain, France and Germany. Rent and a complete takeover are both possibilities.
Furthermore, Naci Ünüvar also seems to be able to leave Ajax quickly. Spanish Espanyol is showing interest, which means that a loan period or permanent transfer are both options. Silvano Vos in turn seems to have an agreement with AC Milan, which means that the midfielder, according to The Telegraph will leave for Italy for approximately 3 million euros.
There are also rumours surrounding Steven Bergwijn’s future. The former Ajax captain was recently in the stands at Fulham – Leicester City, which only fuelled those rumours. For a good fee, he seems to be allowed to go through the exit. Brian Brobbey is also still being pulled by clubs, but the 22-year-old striker himself indicated that he would prefer to stay in Amsterdam. Nottingham Forest was concrete, but was given a big ‘no’ by his agent.
Until the transfer window closes on September 2, there will be plenty to do, starting with Weghorst who will be presented in a considerable time.
