The unique way trees express solidarity

This interesting news has come from the world of Auckland trees that if the trunk of a tree starts to fall and die near healthy trees, all the other trees together provide it with nutrients and water so that the tree can avoid dying.

It shows that there is an integrated system between the trees and they also support each other through the extensive network of roots. This important discovery will help to better understand the condition of trees and forest environment.

Sebastian Leuzinger of Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand and his colleagues noticed that the trunk of a dead tree had been in place for a long time but was growing fresh bark and tissue. It was the famous tree of New Zealand, Kori, which was still alive after being severed from the root.

Subsatian installed several water flow sensors on this trunk and also installed such monitors on two nearby trees. After a few weeks, the living tree was found to be sending nutrients and water up to the fallen trunk. During the day, the water evaporated from the leaves of the trees, so the water in the trunk decreased, but from the evening to the night, a large amount of water was observed from the living trees to the trunk.

As the water enters the trunk of the tree, its neighboring trees give great support. On this basis, Subasian says that a forest can be described as an organized and unified body.

Although these trees are hundreds of years old, the relationship between them has only recently been discovered. Now we are trying to find out the real reason. Perhaps the trunk of the tree also supports other healthy trees and is of some use to them. It may also be that a dying tree becomes part of a wider network of healthy trees.

Professor Greg Moore, a botanist at the University of Melbourne, Australia, commented on this research, saying that trees are very effective in increasing their own resources. In this whole phenomenon, nearby trees are benefiting from each other.
