Contrary to expectations, the Steinbach Black Wings had to do without some of their regular players in the fourth test match of the preseason. Before that, there was talk of playing with the supposed best line-up. On match day, however, Ian Scheid and Patrick Söllinger had to withdraw due to illness. Nico Feldner blocked a shot in training and was rested, as was Julian Pusnik.
The Linz team started the match ambitiously. Driven by 1,691 spectators, they had the proceedings largely under control, but clear opportunities were in short supply. The guests from Bavaria weakened themselves again and again through fouls as the match progressed.

It took until the 32nd minute of play for Linz to put its superiority on the scoreboard: Shawn St-Amant scored after a quick attack to make it 1-0. The team went into the second period break with the lead, but one of three 2-minute penalties. Immediately after that, Shawn St-Amant struck again: just five seconds after the restart, the French-Canadian scored to make it 2-0 for Linz – with a shorthander.
Riley Damiani put the visitors on the scoreboard with a goal to make it 1:2 in the 53rd minute. Less than two minutes later, captain Brian Lebler restored the two-goal lead with a powerful shot through the legs of Augsburg goalie Strauss Mann. After ex-Villach player Chris Collins scored to make it 2:3 with 2:13 minutes to go, the visitors took another risk and took the goalie off the ice. Henrik Neubauer was able to take advantage of this situation and score into the empty net four seconds before the end to make it 4:2.
