A short time ago, the painful funeral journey of the reserve fighter Shlomo Yonatan Chazut from Ashdod, which took place in the military section of the city, ended.

Crowds of acquaintances, friends, family members and of course residents came to honor and accompany this hero of Israel on his last journey. The firemen from the Ashdod station also arrived in an emotional gesture with fire trucks and Israeli flags and stood at the entrance to the cemetery.

Health Minister Uriel Bosso and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also participated in the funeral, as well as MK Yanon Azoulai, Rabbi Dr. Yehiel Lesri, his deputies and members of the city council.

Hazot, 36 years old, a fighter in Battalion 9207, the ‘Jerusalem’ Brigade (16), was killed by an explosive device in the center of the Gaza Strip. He left behind a pregnant wife – Malki and a two-year-old girl – Yaeli. His mother died just 7 months ago.

“My peace, my love, my man, I can’t stand it,” Malki’s wife paid him a tearful tribute, “I’m here now and I can’t believe you’re not here to hug me, I can’t digest. When we found out I was pregnant, it was a point of light in the chaos Ours, you were so excited to hear that we are expecting a son, I was already waiting for you to come back from the reserve so we could tell our family and friends. I can’t imagine that we won’t have another busy day of work to receive a WhatsApp from you with a picture of a trip we took together. I already miss your laugh and the playful smile The smart ones for the shared exits, for Saturdays together.”

Malki also told about Shlomi, who was loved by everyone, “My love, you are the most special person I have ever met, loved by everyone. Wherever we traveled in the world, everyone was always attracted to you, consulted you and changed the route to join you. Very quickly since we started dating I realized that you Not only my peace, you are everyone’s peace everywhere I went everyone called you our peace, you were the source of my pride and you gave me all the confidence you could find for me in everything. You can too. We had an amazing relationship, we just started building, respecting your parents was the most important thing in your eyes. You were the best father ever, and with God’s help, you are our pride To me that the son who comes will not get to experience and know you and will not get to receive all the good things that I and Yali experienced from the time we shared with you. I will always remember your smile and take it with me.”

Eli, Shlomo’s father paid tribute to him and said that he had a feeling that something bad had happened to his son: “I still don’t believe it, I hope you return to the WhatsApp messages I sent you yesterday. You didn’t answer me, I already had a bad feeling. Shlomo, our oldest and eldest son, you were the father The second of the house, I always worry, how will we remember you, I am still in a bad dream, how good you were, after that in Bnei Akiva, you were always strong and helped us, everywhere I always wanted you, I never heard from you, you can always learn what it means to be a father, and if, when I was angry with you, you never raised your voice, my dear son, this story is very difficult for me. I don’t know how we will get through this year this”.

The father also said that he tried to plead with his son not to return to Gaza again, after he had already performed long reserve service, but Shlomo insisted, “I told you, ‘You’ve done enough, you’ve been called to Gaza three times, you’re fighting, your wife is pregnant, a little girl, stay home.’ You said, ‘Father , 25 percent of the company was not recruited, father, if I don’t go, others won’t come either, and we have to eliminate these terrorists, these sons of injustice for everything they did to us,’ he took it very hard, a hero and a saint, my eldest son, may your soul rest in heaven.”

His brother Israel told about the mother’s passing several months before, “Our mother, whom you loved so much, you are connected to each other in an unusual way to the point that not even a year has passed and you are meeting again. I am sure that mother is accompanying you upstairs and watching over you, you fell in the battle for Kiddush God, the gift of martyrdom that only a few of the people of Israel have been blessed with.”
