Condemnation of Saudi Arabia’s statement on the construction of a Jewish synagogue in Al-Aqsa Mosque

Saudi Arabia on Tuesday condemned an Israeli minister’s statement about building a Jewish synagogue on the premises of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In a statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, it is said that Saudi Arabia has clearly rejected these extremist and provocative statements and the ongoing provocation against Muslims around the world.

According to the Foreign Ministry statement: ‘Saudi Arabia reiterates the need to respect the historic and legal status of Al-Aqsa Mosque.’

Israeli National Security Minister Itmar bin Ghafeer said on Monday that he Al-Aqsa Mosque I will build a synagogue in Jordan, on his statement. Palestinians The government and Hamas also reacted.

According to the AFP news agency, National Security Minister Itamar bin Ghafir, who has repeatedly ignored the government’s long-standing ban on Jewish worship at the site, told Army Radio that “if it was possible, he would A Jewish place of worship will be built in the Al-Aqsa compound, which the Jews know as the Temple Mount.’

Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam and a symbol of Palestinian national identity.

“If I could do anything, I would plant an Israeli flag at this location,” Bin Ghafir said in the interview.

The journalist asked that if it were up to him, would he build a Jewish synagogue at this location? To which Ibn Ghafir replied: ‘Yes.’

Israeli authorities allow Jews and other non-Muslims to enter the Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem compound during certain hours, but they are not allowed to worship there or display religious symbols.

In recent years, hard-line religious nationalists such as Ben Ghafir have repeatedly flouted these restrictions at the Al-Aqsa compound, sometimes prompting strong Palestinian backlash.

Since taking office in December 2022, Bin Ghafir has visited the controversial holy site at least six times as national security minister, which has been widely condemned.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound is managed by Jordan, but access to the site itself is controlled by Israeli security forces.

“Jews should be allowed to worship in the compound,” Bin Ghafir told Army Radio.

Jordan responded to Bin Ghafir’s statement and said that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a special place of worship for Muslims.

Jordanian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sufyan Qada said in a statement that Al-Aqsa and the Holy Places are special places of worship for Muslims.

He said that ‘Jordan will take all necessary measures to prevent attacks on holy places and is preparing the necessary legal files for action in international courts against attacks on holy places.’

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudina, has warned that ‘Al-Aqsa and the holy sites are a red line that we will not allow to be touched at all.’

Hamas, with which Israel has been fighting in the Gaza Strip, said the Israeli minister’s statement was “dangerous”.

Earlier this month, Ben Ghafir announced that he had worshiped at the compound, drawing widespread condemnation, including from several influential Israeli rabbis.

During a recent visit to the site, Babin Ghafir filmed a video statement in which he reiterated his opposition to any ceasefire in Gaza.

On the other hand, several Israeli officials have also condemned Bin Ghafir’s statement, while a statement issued by the office of Prime Minister Bin Yameen Netanyahu said that “there has been no change in the current policy.”

Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that challenging the current situation on the Temple Mount is a dangerous, unnecessary and irresponsible act.

“Bin Ghafir’s actions endanger the national security of the Israeli state,” he said.

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid said on X that Ben Ghafir’s repeated statements show that ‘Netanyahu has lost control of his government.’
