Deportivo Zacapa is going through a rough patch in the current 2024 Apertura Tournament. In four games that the team from the east of the country has played in the national soccer season, it has not managed to win and remains at the bottom of the table.

In the first four days of the championship Zacapa accumulates two points resulting from two draws and two defeats. Adrián García Arias, the Mexican coach, was the one who took on the challenge of moving the Gallos project forward, but after their last match (a goalless draw against Cobán Imperial), he did not keep his opinion to himself regarding certain aspects that occur within his locker room.

Zacapa was unable to get the result at home against the Blue Princes of Cobán Imperial and after the final whistle García Arias stressed that it is “For those of us who can afford it” and he also left a phrase in which he indicated that some of his players are undisciplined.

“The squad is short, we don’t have many options. The people who shout don’t know, they want me to score to players who perhaps did not go to training during the week or came to train two days“, he said.

“We want to stay focused, the team is not playing badly but we cannot expect miracles. The team put itself together as best it could, they are committed but we are missing people up front,” he said.

“People of higher rank are needed. Some people who are very talented need to be tightened. because there is indiscipline,” he said.

Zacapa is in 11th position in the Apertura 2024 standings. Their next match will be against Antigua GFC as a visitor on Sunday, September 1.
