THE General Chairperson of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar alias Cak Imin wants his party to be independent. One of which is not depending on the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU).
“Of course this is the most difficult mandate on how PKB must be independent and not dependent on anyone. Indeed, the discussion among the kiai of the PBNU momentum did not support PKB during the last election, and produced good results, instead it was a blessing for PKB to be truly independent and self-reliant,” said Cak Imin in Nusa Dua, Bali, Sunday (25/8).
Cak Imin said independence from PBNU was one of the requests of the PKB regional representative council (DPW). The request was considered so that his party could run independently.
“Because after being independent and self-reliant, PKB no longer depends on any institution or organization,” said Cak Imin.
Vice President Ma’ruf Amin praised the PKB’s approach to politics. According to him, the party has succeeded in uniting all groups, not just Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).
“In reality, those who support PKB are not only NU people, but all groups,” said Ma’ruf at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center, Bali, Saturday (24/8).

Ma’ruf recalled the formation of PKB 26 years ago. According to him, the party was initially established as a forum to accommodate the aspirations of Nahdliyin.
“Because at that time NU people wanted to have a party that carried their aspirations,” said Ma’ruf.
Gradually, PKB was accepted by all groups. According to Ma’ruf, the party used political tactics to embrace all groups.
“Because PKB politics is rahmatanlilalamin politics, politics for all groups. Earlier, Mr. Muhaimin (PKB General Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar) also said that, not rahmatanlilnahdiyin but rahmatanlilalamin,” said Ma’ruf. (P-5)
