Venezuela promotes the sanctity of Juan Grilc, emblematic parish priest of Chacao

Father Gerardino Barrachinni, Vicar for Holiness in Venezuela and vice postulator for the canonization of José Gregorio Hernández, indicated that the proposal for beatification of Father Juan Grilc, who was parish priest of Chacao For 27 years, it emerged as an initiative of the parishioners.

Since his death, Father Grilc, a religious of Slovenian origin, has been recognized for his reputation for holiness, thanks to his kind manner and exemplary charity. Throughout his time in Venezuela, in the various parishes where he served, he left a mark of kindness and memories throughout the community.

Proposal for sainthood for Juan Grilc

He said that the inhabitants of Chacao decided to present the proposal to the Archbishop Emeritus of Caracas, Cardinal Baltazar Porras, to initiate this cause.

“This first motion was accepted and we are now in the status in which the Episcopal Conference, sAccording to current canonical regulations, he must give the go-ahead to send a letter to Rome asking the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to initiate the cause,” he said.

He stressed that a miracle is not necessary at this time, although it is established that if one were to occur, it could be considered together with the cause; first, the process of recognition of heroic virtues must be carried out.

He clarified that now a request must be made for the religious Grilc to be considered as a candidate for the altars.

He added that the certification is now needed to initiate the case, and once permission from Rome is obtained, the postulator will be appointed and an ecclesiastical tribunal will be established to study all the witnesses who can attest to his reputation for holiness.

They request the sainthood of Juan Grilc.
