Blue Bottle Studio – Kyoto – 2024 Autumn

Blue Bottle Coffee Japan LLC (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo) will open “Blue Bottle Studio – Kyoto -” for a limited time from Tuesday, October 1st, to Monday, December 2nd, 2024. “Blue Bottle Studio – Kyoto -” was inaugurated in March 2023 as a place for James Freeman, the founder of the brand, to reconnect with coffee through various brews and interactions with people, more than 20 years after the brand’s inception. It aims to provide the exceptional coffee experience he envisions today. To ensure the highest quality coffee experience, every aspect surrounding the coffee is designed to be understated and delicate, with careful attention given to everything from the barista’s attire and the coffee brewing process to the cups and the overall setting.

The coffee course features a selection of rare single-origin coffee beans, brewed in a unique manner to highlight their distinct characteristics, along with a menu inspired by the coffee shop culture that influenced James significantly. The course includes six beverages and two desserts, with confections curated by Yuichi Goto and Kazuhiro Nakamura of Tangentes. This fall, the course will introduce a new drink, “Soluble,” which is a special instant coffee made from XR (Exceedingly Rare) coffee beans—the first of its kind offered by Blue Bottle Coffee in Japan. This beverage has been crafted with the intention of delivering an exceptional coffee experience at the Studio. Guests can enjoy a private and exclusive space with just five seats, designed and renovated by Schemata Architectural Planning’s Tsuneo Nagasaka, situated within a traditional Kyoto townhouse that is over 100 years old.

After completing the coffee course, attendees can purchase the brewing equipment and tableware used in the session, as well as beautifully crafted wooden canisters resulting from a collaboration between Gato Mikio Shoten, product designer Shigeichiro Takeuchi, and Blue Bottle Coffee, along with tote bags dyed with coffee grounds.

We eagerly await your visit to Blue Bottle Studio – Kyoto – amidst the breathtaking autumn scenery of vibrant foliage.
