An autistic teenager is on the list of those detained by the Venezuelan regime

The mass arrest of people after the July 28 elections is evidence of “indiscriminate repression in all states of the country, for the first time”as stated by the director of Foro Penal, lawyer Gonzalo Himiob, in an interview for Analítica TV.

He explained that Of the nearly 1,400 confirmed arbitrary arrests, only 52 have been released. 117 teenagers have been arrested, Among them was a 13-year-old who was released, since the age to charge a minor is from 14 years old.

In this group of young people, a boy also stands out 17-year-old with autism spectrum disorder who was not allowed to be accompanied by his parents, therapist or lawyers. He was arrested at the door of his house. There is also a 27 year old adult who is deafand does not know sign language or how to read or write.

According to Himiob, in most cases detainees have been prevented from having access to their relatives and trusted lawyers, “This is very serious because it violates the right to defense.”he commented.

Although Nicolás Maduro indicated that the number of arrests exceeds 2,200, Himiob considers that “More than an objective figure of arrests, there is a kind of desire or instruction,” because “their figures do not even match those of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.”

For his part, the secretary general of the National College of Journalists, Caracas branch, Edgar Cárdenas, explained that from July 29 to Tuesday, August 13, there had been 75 attacks against media or journalists.

Four journalists in this group stand out, who were charged with terrorism, three of whom were covering the electoral situation and the protests. These are the cases of Paul León, Deisy Peña and José Gregorio Camero, which is added to the case of Roland Carreño.
