An eight-year-old boy drowns in a pool in the Albuñol river

A minor under eight years old He died on Saturday afternoon after drowning in a puddle of water Located in the area known as the Paraje del Río in Albuñol, Granada.

The incident, which is being investigated by the Civil Guard, and about which there is little information, occurred after 8:00 p.m. on Saturday when the child was bathing in a natural pool located in the Río area in Albuñol (Granada).

According to sources from the Albuñol City Council who confirmed to EFE, when the notice of the incident was received, Emergency services from the 061 Health Emergency Centre, as well as local police and Civil Guard, were transferred to the scene.

Minutes later, personnel from the 061 Health Service transferred the young man to the Albuñol health centre, but were unable to do anything to save his life despite the cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres they performed on him. The Civil Guard has opened an investigation to clarify what happened.

The deceased minor was with his family in the place known as El Río, a recreational area with a picnic area and a pool formed by the river that runs through the town, where the residents of Albuñol and the surrounding area have “always” bathed. However, the mayor has reminded that the area is marked as “not suitable for bathing.”

MOURNING IN ALBUÑOL

The City Council has declared three days of official mourning for the death of the minor. The mayor of Albuñol, María José Sánchez, has declared official mourning from 12:00 noon this Sunday until midday on Wednesday on the occasion “of the tragic and painful death of the minor,” according to the municipal announcement.

The Albuñol Council has also agreed that the flags of municipal buildings will fly at half-mast and all official events organised and promoted directly by the Council throughout the municipality will be suspended during these three days.
