“By quietly building nuclear weapons, Washington is provoking its rivals to do the same, bringing closer the moment when one side miscalculates and causes the end of the world,” the newspaper said in an article.
The article added: “While serving as vice president, Joe Biden regularly spoke about the dangers of nuclear proliferation, but in his current position he prefers to remain silent on the issue, giving secret instructions to the Pentagon to build weapons.”
According to Bloomberg, the new American approach is completely wrong. “Secret weapons or changes in doctrine without public communication will only increase the paranoia of opponents and make a large-scale arms race inevitable, increasing the risk of miscalculation for any party.”
The newspaper pointed out that “the nuclear arms race is absolute stupidity, and it is not only economically devastating for the United States, but also meaningless, because in a nuclear war, the number of warheads ends as soon as the parties launch the first bombs.”
“The problem is that neither Biden, Harris nor Trump are talking publicly about doomsday scenarios, as Eisenhower, Kennedy, Reagan and other presidents once did,” Bloomberg added.
Today, the candidates believe that the issue of nuclear war is of no interest to American voters and therefore not worthy of public discussion. What they do not understand is that “the most important audiences are in Beijing, Moscow and Pyongyang.”
Bloomberg stresses that Biden and Harris must remind Americans and their adversaries of what is at stake. Because by quietly engaging in nuclear buildup, the United States is only provoking the other three “horses of the nuclear apocalypse” to do the same.
The newspaper added, “Ideally, US leaders should return to the position of their predecessors and resume preaching what Kennedy said: nuclear weapons must be destroyed before they destroy us.”
