ZACATECAS.- After a traffic police officer shot and killed a motorist in the municipality of Fresnillo, when he allegedly tried to evade a breathalyzer checkpoint last night, this Saturday, the Human Rights Commission of the State of Zacatecas (CDHEZ) has spoken out and has filed an ex officio complaint.
The event has generated consternation among society that demands justice for the murder of the young man who has been identified as Daniel Murillo and it has transpired that he was a worker in the cleaning department of the Fresnillo City Council.
At around midnight on Friday, the Spokesperson for the State Security Board posted a video in which Osvaldo Caldera, director of the Traffic Safety Police, appears, where he reports on this event that occurred on Huicot Avenue at one of the breathalyzer filters that was placed to reinforce security operations at the Fresnillo Fair.
He explains that “an incident occurred when a vehicle was stopped. The vehicle evaded the checkpoint and dodged the officers, so one of the officers tried to stop it, and when he tried to stop it he was almost run over, which caused him to fire his weapon.”
Police shoot in breathalyzer
The official said that, following these events, the officer was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to determine the legal situation of the police officer who shot the civilian in question.
At the same time, the victim was identified on social media as Daniel Murillo, who has demanded justice and condemned this murder, in addition to demanding that this attack be investigated and that the truth not be hidden, while other citizens point out that breathalyzers are unconstitutional and that they are only a business for traffic authorities.
Following this incident, on Saturday morning, the Human Rights Commission of the State of Zacatecas (CDHEZ) reported that it had filed an unofficial complaint after learning of the incident through state media outlets and that it had undertaken to investigate “the human rights violations attributable to an element of the Directorate of Road Safety.”
