The Taliban government shut down a women’s radio station for broadcasting songs during Ramadan

The Taliban shut down the women-run radio station “Voices of Banwan” for not respecting the sanctity and respect of the month of Ramadan and not following the laws of the country.

According to the World News Agency, the director of information and culture of the Taliban government, Moeezuddin Ahmadi, said that a radio station run by women in Badakhshan province was closed for broadcasting a music program during the holy month of Ramadan.

Mueezuddin Ahmadi further said that the said radio has repeatedly violated the rules and regulations of the Islamic Emirate by broadcasting songs and music during Ramadan.

The Taliban government’s Director of Information and Culture also said that the radio station would be allowed to operate again if the management of the Emirate of Islamia accepts Afghanistan’s policy and guarantees not to do such a thing again.

On the other hand, Najia Sourosh, the head of Sadaya Banwan station, denied any violation of any law, rule or tradition and said that there was no justification for shutting down the radio station. This is a conspiracy to ban expression.

It should be noted that Saday Banwan, which means women’s voice in Dari, is the only women-run radio station in Afghanistan, which was launched 10 years ago.

The Taliban first banned most television, radio and newspapers after establishing their government in the 1990s, but this time only banned women from working in these institutions.

Even after a year and a half in power, there are still restrictions on women’s jobs and girls’ education, and other classes and minorities, including women, are not included in the cabinet.

The reason for these actions is that other countries, including the United States, did not recognize the Taliban government.
