Indian cricket team’s legendary batsman Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement from cricket saying that he wants to focus on moving forward in his life.
The 38-year-old Dhawan last played a cricket match as the captain of Punjab Kings in this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League T20 tournament.
In a social media post, he said, ‘As I end this chapter of my cricketing journey, I am taking countless memories with me. Thank you for the love and support!’
He said that ‘to move forward in life it is necessary to turn the page and that is why I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket.’
This left-handed batsman has scored 2315 runs in 34 Test matches with the help of seven centuries.
He was successful in ODI cricket and scored 6,793 runs in 167 matches at an average of 44.11.

Dhawan also represented four other teams in the IPL apart from Punjab and is the second highest run-scorer in the tournament after Virat Kohli.
He scored 6769 runs in 221 innings in IPL at a strike rate of 127.14.
He last played for India in the ODI series against Bangladesh in December 2022.
“I am leaving with peace in my heart that I have played for India for so long,” said Dhawan.
“I told myself don’t regret that you won’t play for India anymore, but be happy to have played for your country.”
