The president of FedenaEdgar Medina indicated that they are making the necessary preparations to obtain the foot-and-mouth disease certification from PANAFTOSA after vaccinating cattle in the country during the first 15 days of October.

“If this is achieved, it would allow Venezuelan producers to access important international markets that would make it possible for national livestock to be available in different countries,” he said.
He also pointed out that last year, the livestock sector was one of the fastest growing in Venezuela.
“I think that this is where the country’s economic production has to turn because this is a sector that will recover Venezuela’s economy. We have more than 270 thousand direct jobs in our production,” he said.

He also clarified that, although Venezuela is the only country on the continent that does not yet have PANAFTOSA certification, it produces first-class meat for all Venezuelans.
“It has been more than seven years since we received any scientifically proven report or case of foot-and-mouth disease, which is an epizootic disease caused by a virus that only affects animals,” he said.
Finally, on another topic, he added that he assured that a rise in the price of meat for consumers is not planned; the request to the AN to enter into a second discussion Criminal Law for the Protection of Livestock Activities.
