Warden Christian Tilsted from North Jutland Police says that the North Jutland police district was contacted by colleagues in East Jutland who needed help. At 4.29 a van had been stolen in Aarhus. And since it was equipped with GPS, the police could see that it was driving around the Hadsund area.
– We then tracked it down on the E45 motorway, where it was driving south from Hobro. We had a patrol car after it. But since there was a slight delay in the GPS signal, we actually went too far. It turned out that the van had left at Purhus, says Christian Tilsted.
It was then that an absurd situation arose that made the police work somewhat easier. The patrol car stayed in the emergency lane on the motorway while it was investigated where the van had gone.
– But the van had driven on the motorway again, and it stopped behind the patrol car in the emergency lane. And then at least two people got out and ran across the fields, says Christian Tilsted.
A single person was in the van, who was arrested on the spot. In the meantime, a dog patrol was called from Randers, and it sniffed out one of the people who ran from the van.
– So we have two arrested but at least one is missing, says the warden. The police cannot rule out that there may have been a fourth perpetrator who also ran away from the van.
It has subsequently turned out that the three – perhaps four – van thieves are also believed to have committed burglaries in Hadsund.
– There has been a break-in at Nilfisk, and there were brushes from there in the van, says Christian Tilsted.
On Saturday morning, the police were getting an overview of how much valuables were stolen during the break-in. It has a bearing on whether the arrested must be produced in a constitutional hearing with a view to remand.
