Israel vows to respond to Hezbollah rocket attack on occupied Golan Heights

The Israeli army on Wednesday vowed to respond to an attack by the Shiite militia Hezbollah, which launched 50 rockets this morning at the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, causing one minor injury who had to evacuate his home in Katzrin.

“Like any country that protects its citizens, we will act accordingly,” military spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a message on Wednesday, accusing Hezbollah of “indiscriminately firing on Israeli civilians.”

In the attack, a man in his 30s was slightly injured by shrapnel, according to emergency services, “with injuries from glass and explosions” and was evacuated to hospital in Safad.

Military spokesman for international media Nadav Shoshani reiterated the threat, saying the attack would not go unanswered.

“Thousands of civilian families and homes were attacked and hit by Hezbollah fire,” Shoshani said in X. “There was no other target in the area than a civilian neighborhood and some children on summer vacation,” he added.

Aim

Hezbollah said the target was a nearby military base and the attack was in response to a series of Israeli strikes that killed one person and wounded 20 in eastern Lebanon early in the morning.

“In response to the Israeli enemy’s aggression against the Bekaa region, Islamic Resistance fighters on Wednesday bombarded the Tsnobar logistics base in the occupied Golan Heights with volleys of Katyusha rockets,” the Lebanese movement announced in a statement.

Israel bombed three different points in the Bekaa Valley early this morning, a Hezbollah stronghold in eastern Lebanon, some 100 kilometers from the common border where crossfire has usually been concentrated for just over ten months.

Attacks

The Israeli strikes, which killed a young man and wounded around 20 people, eight of them children, are the second against this eastern region of Lebanon in just over 24 hours, after Israel confirmed early Tuesday that it had attacked weapons depots there.

Tensions between the two sides have remained high since late July, when Israel killed the Lebanese movement’s top commander, Fuad Shukr, outside Beirut, and many fear a possible open war like the one in 2006.
