Reaction of the Prime Minister of Malaya on the extradition of Dr. Zakir Naik to India – World

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has said his government may consider India’s extradition request for Islamic preacher Zakir Naik if New Delhi provides evidence against him.

It should be noted that the Prime Minister of Malaysia is on a visit to India these days and he met the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It should be noted that the investigation against Dr. Naik started in 2016 when the news about those involved in the Dhaka attack began to circulate that some of the attackers were inspired by Zakir Naik, while Zakir Naik and several members of his organization were in Mumbai, Maharashtra. , Sindhdurg and Kerala have registered cases. Later, the Modi government imposed a five-year ban on the NGO of prominent Islamic scholar and preacher Zakir Naik, while the Islamic Research Foundation was banned on the basis of mere news. Later, Dr. Zakir Naik was deported from India to Malaysia.

During an interactive session at the Indian Council of World Affairs, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also said that this issue cannot stop the two countries from expanding bilateral relations.

In response to a question, he said that this issue was not raised by India during the talks. The Islamic preacher was granted permanent residency in Malaysia by the previous government led by Mahathir Mohamad.

“A few years ago, this issue was raised not by India but by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but the problem is that I am not talking about a person, I am talking about extremist sentiments,” he said. If any evidence is attributed to any individual, group or party, our government would welcome “any views and evidence”.

Anwar Ibrahim said, “There is no room for terrorism… We have a firm stand on this and we are working with India on many issues against terrorism.” But I don’t think this one issue will stop us from further cooperation and expanding our bilateral cooperation.
