The Airbus factory in Bremen has made important deliveries for the Orion spacecraft that will soon land on the moon.
The company and Bremen Economics have announced that a third European Service Module (ESM) is on its way to the United States. Assembly and testing takes place there. The spacecraft will allow astronauts to return to the lunar surface for the first time since the 1970s.
According to the company, the module provides propulsion, energy supply and thermal regulation, and will provide water and oxygen to the astronauts during the mission. The ESM is installed below the astronaut capsule. Together they form the Orion spacecraft. Airbus built the module on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) for NASA’s planned lunar landing in September 2026.
The Artemis 3 mission will allow astronauts to set foot on the lunar surface again for the first time in more than 50 years. Two of the four astronauts are expected to stay on the moon for about a week.
