“A shock”: Health setback for Marco Schwarz

The 2021 combined world champion must therefore cancel his participation in a four-week ÖSV training camp in El Colorado/Chile, as Ski Austria announced on Thursday. Schwarz had been examined in Innsbruck because of back pain, after the problem was fixed he was infiltrated and now has to rest for several weeks.

On December 28 of last year, Schwarz suffered a torn cruciate ligament and tear of the medial meniscus as well as cartilage damage in his right knee in a fall during a World Cup downhill race on the Stelvio in Bormio.

It is not yet clear when the all-rounder, who turned 29 last Friday, will be able to start training again. “The first diagnosis was obviously a shock because I was really looking forward to Chile after the intensive rehabilitation phase,” said Schwarz in his initial reaction. He had repeatedly felt his back over the summer, but the pain had gotten worse in the past week. “After a rest period, I will use the time to get 100 percent fit again and then I want to start training again fully.”
