COMPOSER Purwa Tjaraka and painter John Martono collaborated to combine painting and music in a performance entitled “Harmony of Visual Space & Sound” at Pondok Indah Mall, Jakarta.
Harmoni Ruang Rupa & Suara is a celebration of creativity that embraces two art forms, painting and music. John Martono, known for his colorful and expressive works, will do something that has never been done before, namely painting directly on a piano instrument.
With his unique technique and style, John Martono will make the piano a living canvas, creating works of art that are not only pleasing to the eye but also blend with the flow of the music.
This event was also enlivened by a musical performance from Indonesian music maestro Purwa Tjaraka with beautiful melodies produced by the piano instrument he played.
In addition, it also presents talented children who will present a diverse repertoire, ranging from vocal solos, group vocals, drum solos and others. This musical performance will be a harmonious background for John Martono’s creative process and add a new dimension to every touch of the brush and the resulting tone.
In addition, this event also involves many children to be able to stimulate their creativity with coloring activities. Participants in this coloring competition are children from kindergarten to elementary school age.

There are 2 competition categories, namely the Kindergarten category with a maximum age of 5 years and the Elementary School category with an age range of 6-12 years.
Purwa Tjaraka, CEO and Founder of Purwa Caraka Music Studio, said that the enthusiasm of the participants and parents for this event was quite high because many registered. However, they had to limit the number of participants due to limited space and time.
“We are very enthusiastic to present this event to the public. Combining painting with music is an innovative step that not only expands the boundaries of art, but also offers an enchanting and memorable experience for everyone who attends,” said Purwa in his statement, Saturday (17/8).
Purwa explained that his party collaborated with John Martono, widely known through his works in the form of paintings and murals displayed both domestically and abroad. John Martono’s murals are often found in the corners of Bandung. Previously, John was known as the first painter in Indonesia to use silk cloth as a substitute for canvas. John is also actively involved in various art exhibitions held in various countries such as Japan, Korea, Australia, Singapore, China, several European countries and the United States. (Z-8)
